Industry Exposure

Lifelong Learning

BSides Canberra

In March of 2019 and April of 2021, I attended Canberra’s annual BSides Cyber security conference with the UTS Cyber Security society and a few friends. During the event, I was fortunate enough to attend a range of different conferences that explored:

  • Serious hacks that occurred in the past few years, including the leak of Tony Abbott’s passport and phone numbers and how they were obtained
  • Forensics and restoring data on a disposable camera
  • Creating a new programming language out of emojis

In addition to this event, I participated in the jeopardy style Capture the Flag (CTF) competition. Here, I used my previous knowledge obtained in university, my current employment, and previous CTF challenges to complete some of the obstacles I faced.

The overall experience was eye-opening and enabled me to improve my skills in various areas. Additionally, I expanded my social network and connected with a wide range of industry professionals.
